Optometric Assistant | Full-Time Position 

Our medical eye care practice in Kamuela is looking to grow our team. We are looking to hire a full-time optometric assistant, who is friendly, responsible, reliable and attentive-to-detail. In our mission to provide the best eye care service possible, our doctors use only the most advanced, state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and eye care products available. We are committed to educating our patients and providing personalized eye care services to the people on Hawai’i Island. 

Job Description: 

The position is occasionally a “float” position, meaning the applicant should be flexible and enjoy a variety of responsibilities.  

Responsibilities include, but not limited to: 

Optician

  • Guide patients in selecting frames that look and feel comfortable
  • Educate patients on lens products that will help obtain the best visual clarity 
  • Understand the eye doctor’s prescription and use it to assess each patient’s needs
  • Accurately prepare glasses orders for the lab technicians
  • Understand and maximize the patient’s insurance contributions
  • Dispense prescription eyewear and instruct customers in proper use and care
  • Provide follow-up services, including eyewear adjustment, repair, and replacements
  • Assist in various duties including frame and lens inventory, disinfecting and sanitizing the optical area, working with our brand representatives to stay up-to-date with the latest trends

Optometric Technician 

  • Ability to maintain patient flow by working efficiently
  • Perform pre-examination testing with state-of-the art technology
  • Manage the schedule by bringing patients into the office in a timely manner, rescheduling no shows and cancellations, and confirming upcoming appointment times
  • Prepare instruments for the next day by inputting patient information
  • Refer patient to external providers by sending clinical notes, images, and scans 

Receptionist/Administrative Assistant

  • Greet, welcome, and check-in patients
  • Answer phones, respond to office text messages, and emails in a timely manner
  • Obtain Patient History Questionnaires, upload and input patient demographics, insurance information, medication, and medical history in electronic health records system
  • Prepare patient charts by confirming and verifying insurance coverage
  • Checkout patients by collecting payments, selling products, and scheduling follow-up appointments 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Paraoptometric Certification (Preferred)
  • Customer Service experience (Preferred) 
  • Must be available to work on scheduled Saturdays
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise judgement, initiative, and possess problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn is a must
